REVIEWS: Review by Lanman of Metal Vault Chavis Records

Right off the bat let me just say 'ANGEL EDGE' kicks ass!!! ..1 minute into the song 'Realm Of Darkness' and I immediately claimed this to be one of the BEST bands you never heard and it's a damn shame! You get a wide variety of Hard Rock, Heavy Metal, AOR, Melodic in your face ROCK music. What impresses me the most is how talented and diverse these guys are. I love the vocal style of 'Kenny Romero', I hear mixtures of Robert Fleischman (Vinnie Vincent) crossed with Greg Analla (The Seventh Sign) and even some hints of Judas Priest and Bad English. I don't know why 'ANGEL EDGE' didn't rise above the ashes but 'Revisited' is not to be second guessed. Founding member and guitarist Rumaldo Ortiz superbly delivers tight guitar oriented rhythms laced with blazing leads. A style very unique but a sound that you've heard before and one you never get bored or tired of. A style similar to that of Neil Schon (Journey). Rumaldo also handles the low-end and Eddie Garcia with sharp footwork, nicely carries the drive on drums. Production is keen and reminiscent of early 80's. One I love because it is pure and clean no studio tricks and for an indie release it's really good! There is so much great stuff on 'Revisited' tons of great hooks, melodies, vocal harmonies, guitars, guitars, guitars I can't say enough. 'Realm Of Darkness' the hook laden driver that leads off this album and one of my favs is actually sung by Rumaldo Ortiz. A rhythm so incredibly entrancing, look at your speedometer and see how fast you're going... 'Will You Be There' another song where Ortiz handles the vocals, offers up yet another hard rockin' head bangin' rocker with a driving beat and great hooks. 'Headin' To Sound City' is the all instrumental rocker that allows you to hear the sonic musicianship of 'ANGEL EDGE'. As you delve deeper into the music 'Incessant Love, All A Game and License To Thrill' open the highway for 'Broken Hearts & Shattered Dreams and 'All That's Left Is Goodbye'. There's plenty of power for every HARD ROCK fan on 'Revisited'. If this was released 10 years ago ANGEL EDGE would have been a platinum act. Fortunately the band is working on putting together new material. No doubt a top notch band. Check it out - you won't be disappointed. Lanman METALVAULT / Chavis Records

Review by Nick Baldrian

You know, there's this band over in the US (Santa Fe to be exact) who kept pestering me to hurry up and get the review of their album done. Little did they realise that the reason for my delay was because there was something wonderfully unique happening about these guys that gave me writers block, and it's very rare that you get a band whose demos create such a buzz that it's hard to put into words. So it's a big melodic HELLO to ANGEL EDGE whose excellent demo CD "REVISITED" has spent many hours whizzing around on heavy rotation on this journos death deck over the last couple of months, and I still ain't bored yet, in fact I'm hooked! Their style as you guessed is melodic hard rock, quite similar actually to Journey, Dokken, Defcon, Danny Danzi, etc... Kenny Romero is one hell of a singer, his pitch is in the vein of Steve Perry with hints of Don Dokken and Tony Harnell. Take the opening track 'All A Game' for instance, this is where those Schon/Lynch style guitar hooks flow, whilst 'Incessant Love' proves to be one of my favourite cuts, this could have come straight from "Frontiers". The speedy 'Headin' To Sound City' is up next and this is where the fun starts to heat up, yeah baby, I love this instrumental cut which showcases Rumaldo Ortiz all guns blazing guitar wizardry. The sound of this demo album isn't too bad, even though at times it can sound like some of those early eighties vinyl records such as Paul Sabu etc. 'Sound City' leads us on into the catchy as hell 'License To Thrill' a good hard rock song, whilst 'Broken Hearts And Shattered Dreams' is a ballad in the Perry "Frontiers" vein, oh man this song develops into a melodic ballad and is fantastic, I love it when Kenny hits certain vocal levels that make him a deadringer for Perry amongst others. 'Will You Be There' is up next and again this is a great song that makes me think of early Dokken and Danny Danzi. Then comes what I consider to be another of the bands best songs, 'Realm Of Darkness', this number is a guitar heavy number a'la Ronnie Le Tekro and George Lynch coupled with very melodic harmony vocals a'la Tony Harnell from TNT crossed with Don Dokken. The final song is 'All That's Left Is Goodbye' is another superb melodic ballad with a superb guitar tone and crosses Dokken with Journey. Seriously despite the sometimes poor sound quality Angel Edge are simply fantastic and deserve a record deal. If you like guitar driven US melodic hard rock of the 80's formular then check out ANGEL EDGE and get your air guitar out, bang yer head and crank up that volume. Watch out for this band folks, they guys are happening and they are fastly riding high in the mp3.com metal charts, watch them go kids!! Yer I like ANGEL EDGE, a damn fine band.

Broken Hearts and Shattered Dreams by Angel Edge - **Catching my breath!!!** -

This is music that I grew up with!!! This is music that you can’t hear on the radio stations every day. I am in awe of the entire piece. The guitar work by Rumaldo Ortiz is reminiscent of Steve Vai or George Lynch of Dokken. From the information that I have gathered from the MP3.com page Rumaldo also played the bass on the CD and sang two other songs.

Vocalist Kenny Romero has the voice of an angel. Bringing back all those thoughts of when I was a teenager and had the posters all over my bedroom walls and how as a teenager I would sit and stare at those rockstars wishing I was on stage with them. This is how his vocals affect me. Kenny is quite melodic and provocative in his vocals. The steady beat of Eddie Garcia is that final touch that is needed to close the deal. His hard-hitting use of crashes and continuous use of cymbal work to accentuate the vocals puts the icing on the cake.

The lyrics of Broken Hearts and Shattered Dreams almost makes me feel like they are questioning the music scene. Will it ever be the same? If these guys continue to go as they have been they will help to bring back what this music scene is missing. TRUE ROCK N ROLL. I have to be completely and totally honest here, I had to have listened to this song at least 5 times just to see what I might be able to hear that I didn’t hear the previous 4 times. Each time listening to it I could hear something new and exciting. Angel Edge is one HELL of a band. They are true musicians that play from the heart, you can tell that it is their life’s blood!

Excerpts Of Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem Struttermagazine

...I have to add that the music of ANGEL EDGE is very good and is a mixture of pure AOR (AVIATOR/JOURNEY/AVION) and 80s Melodic Rock (DOKKEN, VALENTINE, HEAVENS EDGE). I think we have a winner over here, because it all sounds pretty good, .... The first two songs are really impressive. "All a game" is a fantastic uptempo melodic rocker a la VALENTINE, DOKKEN… Up next is the superb 80s typed midtempo AOR ballad "Incessant love" with it's killer vocals and harmonies (a la JOURNEY)...... there is the instrumental "Headin' to Sound City" and then there's the uptempo 80s American Hard Rock song "License to thrill" (just a nice song, nothing more, nothing less). The band is back into AOR HEAVEN with the lovely semi AOR ballad "Broken hearts and shattered dreams". .......("Will you be there", "Realm of darkness" and "All that's left is goodbye") are all good melodic hard rock songs and stylish moving into HEAVENS EDGE territory.....Recommended if you like bands such as HEAVENS EDGE, VALENTINE, DANGER DANGER and DOKKEN (80s material). ..

Newly found Angel Edge concert footage! Boy this takes me back! We were the Coors Light sponsored band that year and you can see Sacramento Kings and Palms hotel co-owner and good friend Joe Maloof with some of his assistants somewhere about the end of the first song. The bass player's brother shot this video with a Sony Camcorder and my friend (the aforementioned bass player), found this New Year's day 2010. It's only half of the whole concert set we performed, but it sure brought back memories! We had a shaky start to this show due to a late start (I won't say what that was about...), but we had a huge turnout, They just wouldn't come up toward the stage 'till later on when we started giving out shirts and cassettes of the Angel Edge album. I know it was pretty loud though so that might have had something to do with everyone staying back, or maybe it sounded better out there where you could hear both sides of the PA equally. Anyway, I hope you get kick out of watching this little snapshot of one of the many outdoor concerts we performed! The audio is from that little camcorder mic so the sound isn't great, but it's not too bad. If anyone in New Mexico has any other concert footage or photos like the Rock-108 Beach Party concert (10,000 + crowd), or the Concert In The Pines (with Micky Thomas and Starship), or any other show, please contact me at: bluzman1@wakeupandsmelltheblues.com. Thanks! Rumaldo ..

While it looks like no one is at this show, what we did was rope off the floor to do a video for a producer in L.A. that wanted footage of the band. We had a great crowd, they were just spread all around the club. You'll hear songs performed on this video that have never been released before now. I hope you enjoy it! If you're a drummer, you might want to check out the drum solo at the end of Part 1. Also, make sure to check out part 2!..
