  • Bio

...... Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five probably had it right in 1982 when they released the old school hip-hop classic, "The Message." The song detailed the struggles and frustrations of living in a truly run down envirnment, one of the first to do so in the hip-hop genre. The song was pure and true to form, holding nothing back. Jump 26 years later and in Dublin, Ireland. a fresh face to the music scene is bringing back that old school, organic sound of the 1980's and the revelation that "The Message" brought forward all those years ago. Bitter Rocc is that fresh face, an artist not afraid to put himself out there for the entire world to see. Born in Dublin - Ireland in 1987 Richard O Connor has learned alot in his 21 years. During the immense rave revolution of the late 80's Rocc's family moved to Burnage Manchester then later moved to the Kingsway area where he found himself living across the street from the Gallagher brothers Liam and Noel who went on to form the band Oasis. His early life in Manchester greatly influenced Rocc's taste in music. From watching Oasis practice in their home to listening to the music at home played by my Mother and three sisters who each had very different tastes in music listening to everything from hip-hop and 60's classics to the electronic sounds of Rave and Dance music, came the idea of fusing electro pop with a hip-hop element to create a contempary sound that is dubbed "NEW WAVE HIP HOP". At the age of nine Rocc moved back to Dublin and times were hard living in a homeless shelter until finally moving to a house in Blanchardstown where he has lived ever since. Crime rates were soaring to a peak at the time in Blanchardstown. Trying to settle into a new surrounding with new people proved difficult. Rocc was constantly in trouble with the local police and eventually got kicked out of school which made settling in even harder. He then decided to focus on bettering himself and making something of his life after a lot of problems in his family life. Rocc's influence in doing this was looking at people around him who were in a similar situation and their life spiralling downwards he himself didn't want to end up like that. He found a passion in music after enrolling in an early school leavers programme which had a computer club house next door. Rocc became close friends with Gavin Byrne who ran the Computer Club and he let him use the recording studio there. He started off messing around with the music equipment and software to make his own beats and gradually began jotting down lyrics, piecing the two together to compose his own music. Since then his love and passion for music grew and he has recorded and produced various different types of music for a wide range of artists all over the world using the influences he collected whilst growing up. Rocc took the darkest point in his young life and decided to turn his life around hoping to influence a new generation of younger artists to come, through his music. Short BITTER ROCC interview piece, INTERVIEWER: So, why did you choose the name "Bitter Rocc"? ROCC: Basically the name I had before "Bigg O Dogg" was too childish, I choose it when I was a kid before i understood what a name meant in music and being somewhat Irish/English it didn't fit into the culture in which i was living. I was in Boston in the studio with American hip-hop artist Silence. He told me when i was freestylin that i sounded so bitter i should use it to my advantage. On the Plane home I decided to change my whole outlook on music and no longer take influences from the dark part of my life and instead focus on the enjoyment of music. Basically a new sound, new name so i decided to use BITTER infront of my initials Richard O Connor (ROC) and came up with BITTER ROCC. INTERVIEWER: How would you explain your style of sound? ROCC: Electric, New, Exciting, Contempary - "NEW WAVE HIP HOP" I listen to alot of music ranging from jazz to techno, sixties to heavy-metal, Maryln Manson to Johnny Cash taking ideas and elements from each. Today I think hip-hop itself is just commercialised, there is no fun left in making hip hop music anymore. I take alot of flack from other Irish artists for not sounding like them, making music isn't about sounding the same, sticking to one style, there is only so many ways to talk about how bad your life is and how bad your country is its like the whole Hip-Hop scene is stuck on repeat. That's why i decided to move away from the genre of Hip-Hop and dare to be different. I'm like an A track old but new no repeat button. INTERVIEWER: What influences you to write? ROCC: Everything and anything can influence me from drug dealers to tattoo artists, from bankers to scam artists, pimps to politicians, teachers to criminals, my girlfriend to my family literally anything can influence me depends on what mood i'm in at the time. INTERVIEWER: What is your favourite snack? ROCC: Candy floss, flying saucers, gum drops, fizzy cola bottles, gummy bears, pop rocks too many to choose from. .......... .. ..!!! New Release:
I Know Now & Drop Hit,s and Evrybodies Darling
    on
    Not Only Street Records

The native-born Jamaican Marvin Anthony Burnett aka Sledgy was born in St. James at September, 27th in 1973.
At the age of sixteen he came with his brother to Germany to stay with his mother and live a better life. Shortly afterwards young Anthony got down with rapping.
To do music brings a lot of joy to him. Music is a great pleasure for Sledgy; he feels committed to make music.

It helped him through his hard time after his entry into Germany which was totally foreign to him at that time.
After he had rapped a long time for himself to take his mind off his worries, Burnett signed a contract with the label Power Jam Records.
With conclusion of the treaty his music career begins.

Under the name of Marvin Burnett he performs onstage (YOU) two times and at Funworld, Bodensee. Furthermore his music appeared on Radio K?ln and Radio 7.
For two years he has been under contract to Power Jam Records which is known as GUMAK Media e.K. today.

The Jamaican Burnett is also charitable. He gave many benefit performances, among others at K?lner Zoo, in a retirement home and not least at town hall in Cologne- Kalk.

If you would like more submissions from NOSR please state so in a conformation email and we would be happy to continue send you additional music.

    Thanking in in advance
