BONJOUR BRUMAIRE

Récipiendaire des prix Révélation de l’Année et Album Indie Pop de l’Année lors du dernier gala GAMIQ, Bonjour Brumaire est issu d’une rencontre insolite et improbable entre un Français, un Québécois anglophone, deux Québécois francophones et une Suissesse, à Montréal en 2007.

Suite à l’enregistrement d’un premier démo éponyme en mars 2007, le groupe s’est fait vite remarquer sur la scène émergente québécoise. Leurs chansons séduisent les radiodiffuseurs indépendants, et atteignent en quelques semaines la tête de différents palmarès francophones.

La formation entre alors en studio avec Ryan Battistuzzi (Malajube, We Are Wolves, Les Breastfeeders) afin d’entamer l’enregistrement d’un premier album en novembre 2007. Enregistré et mixé dans quatre studios différents à Montréal, le groupe a pu travailler sur la console qui a enregistré les mythiques “Exile on Main Street” des Rolling Stones et “Physical Graffiti” de Led Zeppelin. L’opus, intitulé “De la Nature des Foules”, est lancé en avril 2008, sur le label Indica.

Nominé pour les MIMI 2008, Bonjour Brumaire a été finaliste des Francouvertes et lauréat du prix SODRAC de la meilleure composition pour la chanson “Argelès”. Le groupe a également été nominé dans le cadre du Prix Echo / SOCAN de la chanson de l’année pour cette même pièce.

Après avoir parcouru l’est du Canada pendant tout le printemps et l’été 2008, et avoir participé à différent festivals (Francofolies de Montréal, Festival d’Été de Québec, Osheaga, Woodstock en Beauce, Coup de Coeur Francophone, Canadian Music Week, POP Montreal, ...), le groupe entame sa tournée d’automne/hiver et sera en tournée en France en juin 2009.

Trimbalant dans ses bagages un univers musical aux horizons multiples, Bonjour Brumaire se caractérise par son style particulier et sa richesse mélodique. Sur scène, la formation impressionne par sa présence charismatique et ses chansons aux rythmes accrocheurs.

Prize-winner of “Breakthrough Artist of the Year” and “Indie pop Record of the year” awards at Quebec Indie Music Awards in 2008, Bonjour Brumaire is a francophone indie pop quintet based in Montreal, Canada.

While the combo is a young band by any measure, even before celebrating their second birthday in January 2009, their music still speaks to the heart of pop’s golden age with a refreshingly uncontrived message. It is smart, catchy and uncompromising; it avoids both empty imitation and facile novelty with a contemporary self-consciousness that informs their songwriting in structure and lyric.

Clearly, Bonjour Brumaire has managed to grow from disparate roots a musical sense

of self that flirts shamelessly between pop axioms and prog indulgence. Orchestral arrangements of organ, bass, guitar, and drums cushion solo and group vocals that drip with equal parts hook and enduring melody, endearing the listener to an aesthetic that recalls French café, the Lower Main, and a sweaty London dive circa ’75 with equal regard.
The band’s first full length, entitled «De la Nature des Foules», was recorded at four locations in Montreal over five months by acclaimed producer Ryan Battistuzzi (Malajube, We Are Wolves, Les Breastfeeders), and hit shelves April 1st 2008 on Indica Records. Nominated for CBC Radio 3’s Bucky Awards (“Best reason to learn french”), Bonjour Brumaire was also nominated last year for SOCAN’s Echo Prize (“Best song for new artist”) and at the 9th Independent Music Awards (The Indies) for Best Francophone Artist.

After touring the east part of Canada during spring / summer 08, and participating many festivals (Francofolies de Montréal, Festival d’Été de Québec, Osheaga, Woodstock en Beauce, Coup de Coeur Francophone, Canadian Music Week, POP Montreal, ...), the band is at this year's SXSW in Austin (Texas) will head to Europe in May and June 09.
