REVIEW FROM DJ KYBER, BLACK SQUIRREL RADIO: Catera is a new, up-and-coming metal band hailing from Cuyahoga Falls in Ohio. The band recently released a three-song demo and has started selling copies at their concerts. If this demo is just an example of Catera’s potential, then they have quite a promising future. Female fronted metal bands are becoming much more common in this day and age but Catera’s sound is not the generic crap that makes up every other song on Headbanger’s Ball. They sound like a female fronted cross between Seether and Killswitch Engage. Their lead singer, Sarah Lamreaux, has a very powerful voice, which is showcased well on the first track “Shadow You’ve Become” in which she hits high notes and holds them. The guitar duel in the song is also impressive, even if it’s fairly short. The song “Burn it Down” is heavier than “Shadow You’ve Become” and manages to do so without depending on screams or growls like most melodic metal bands today. The last song on the demo is “From the Inside Out” which brings out their most angst-filled, Seether-esque sound. Catera is definitely a band worth checking out, especially for metal fans. -DJ Kyber Black Squirrel Radio
