Edith Butler (aka Marie Nicole Butler) was born in 1942 in New Brunswick, Canada.
After hearing country music on the radio, she received a guitar from her brother and began to play at the convent school she attended. Though musically talented, Butler decided to teach, but after appearing on Canadian television in 1964, she eventually decided to become a singer. Chansons D'Acadie, her debut album, appeared in 1969.
