In 1998, se­ri­al killer William Allen Grone was con­vict­ed of 13 felony counts in­clud­ing rape, tor­ture and mur­der. Dur­ing a sub­se­quent search of his res­i­dence, in­ves­ti­ga­tors dis­cov­ered ev­i­dence link­ing him to the dis­ap­pear­ance of sev­er­al peo­ple dat­ing back to March of 1995. The ev­i­dence gath­ered in­clud­ed Grone’s jour­nal and a can­is­ter con­tain­ing two-​and-​a-​half min­utes of Su­per 8 film. In his jour­nal, Grone refers to the Su­per 8 footage as “The Great Amer­i­can Snuff Film”.
