December is here and my new Christmas song "It Won't Be Christmas (Till You're Here)" is now available for free on www.juliec.com/Christmas (and for a "dolla" on iTunes)! You can also request it on your favorite radio station...
I wrote this tune with the fabulous Emma-Lee Dee and the incomparable Karen Kosowski (Karen also prod...uced it!)... Chicks rock!

I had the pleasure of recording the track with legendary drummer Sly Dunbar from Sly & Robbie (Bob
Dylan, the Rolling Stones, Peter Tosh), Keyboard player Robbie Lyn (The Gladiators, Black
Uhuru, Ken Boothe, Peter Tosh), Guitarist Wayne
Armond (Chalice, the Wailers, Delroy Wilson, Jimmy
Cliff), and Bass player Michael Fletcher (Shaggy, Shabba Rank, Maxi Priest, Beres Hammond).
Recording
Tomorrow at Tuff
Gong Studios was one of my most enjoyable moments. Listen and download for free via Exclaim below!

It's been since summer 2008 that these songs have been sitting in pieces in the drawer on ripped sheets of paper, sitting on the keys of my old piano waiting to be played. Some songs needed a few more threads to be complete, some needed a third eye. Some needed to dance to a different groove to come alive.
So my producer Ron Lopata and I sat in a little room at Spadina and Adelaide surrounded with keyboards, pianos, guitars, basses and computers until the spring came, to bring each song to life.
While we wait for the last bit of snow to melt, we decided to get the band together to give these new songs a whirl. We've been getting our new sound together, trying new things, cooking up a nice set full of delicious surprises.
Making this record has been a journey and I look forward to the next steps, which is sharing it with you guys. Canadian Music week is just around the corner and we are looking forward to playing for you at the Great Hall on Friday March 12 at 8pm.
I'm planning out every last detail while leaving room for some magic to happen on stage. I'm oiling up my vocal cords and shining my shoes. I hope you guys make it out to say hello, to reconnect, and keep up with the Julie C story.
See you at CMW, at the Great Hall on Friday March 12 at 8pm sharp!
So I went to the Canadian Radio Music Awards yesterday at the Royal York Hotel in downtown Toronto. I was nominated but I didn't win. It's fine. Because "Lights" won. She seems like a good artist with a good song. I was happy to see her pick it up.
The room was full of the best of the Canadian music industry, when my name came up during the nomination, there was a good roar of applause and cheer. That was my consolation. It felt good to know that people in the industry knew and like what I'm doing.
I would have to say that the highlight of the awards show was Sass Jordan. She did a great job hosting the show. It's funny because her foul mouth "au natural" gives the first 5 minutes quite an awkward feeling. She's reading the script on the tele-prompter and embarks on this out of character lovey-dovy speech about "the music in our hearts" or something like that. She abruptly interrupts herself right in the middle of it with a smile: "didn't we cut this shit out of the script? come on! scroll down!" leaving the crowd half laughing, half in shock by her boldness.
What can I say, she's a rock n roller... Somehow, her personality reels you in and in a short time, you get on her band wagon and just roll with it. She made it fun! The TV version will probably be one long beep. :)
Anyway, it was a fun day and the food was delicious.
