On which the sardonic singer-songwriter teams with producer Dave Pedliham(from Toronto’s The Brothers Cosmoline) for a fanciful bit of apocalyptic cabaret. With its combination of lush strings, slashing guitars and punchy horns, the constantly shifting arrangement sounds like a cross between the lavish melancholy of Jon Brion and the junkyard clatter of Tom Waits.
