Bio:

Issu d'une famille de musiciens, Louis-Philippe Gingras est natif de Rouyn-Noranda. Il apprit le piano en bas âge, puis se tourna vers la guitare au début de l'adolescence. À l'âge de 17 ans, il s'exila à Montréal pour apprendre le jazz. Ainsi, il gradua du Cégep de Saint-Laurent en Musique Jazz avec une troisième année spécialisée en arrangement jazz. Il chemina par la suite sur la même route au baccalauréat à l’Université McGill en Interprétation Jazz. Ses professeurs comptent les guitaristes Yvan Lemelin, Mike Gauthier et Jon Geary, ainsi que d'autres instrumentistes tels que Frank Lozano et Rémi Bolduc.

Musicien polyvalent, Louis-Philippe travaille comme accompagnateur et soliste sur la scène jazz et sur celle de la pop. Il est notamment membre fondateur du quatuor Les Contracteurs Généreux, groupe avec qui il enregistra Le Sous-Marin de l'Espace, album auto-produit, et participa entre autres au Festival de musiques émergente en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (FME), en première partie du pianiste légendaire Oliver Jones et au OFF Festival de Jazz de Montréal. Aussi, en compagnie de la chanteuse jazz May Cheung, il réchauffa la scène pour le guitariste-chanteur John Pizzarelli, lors de l'Édition 2007 du Festival des Guitares du Monde en Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

Louis-Philippe s'affiche aussi comme compositeur de musique de film et compte à son actif plusieurs trames sonores de courts métrages et publicités télévisées. Depuis 2009, Louis-Philippe s'assume comme auteur-compositeur-interprète et vise à dominer unilatéralement l'industrie de la musique.

Hailing from a musicians family, Louis-Philippe was born in Rouyn-Noranda. He learnt piano at a young age, then turned to guitar during his early teens. At the age of 17, he moved to Montreal in order to study jazz music at Cegep de Saint-Laurent where he graduated with a third-year specialisation in jazz arranging. He followed the same path at the McGill University pursuing a Bachelor Degree in Jazz Performance. His teachers count guitarists Yvan Lemelin, Mike Gauthier and Jon Geary as well as other instrumentalists such as Frank Lozano and Rémi Bolduc.

A versatile musician, Louis-Philippe works as an accompanist and a solo artist on both the jazz and pop scenes. He is notably a founding member of Les Contracteurs Généreux, a quartet that recorded Le Sous-Marin de l'Espace, a self-produced album, and with whom he opened for legendary pianist Oliver Jones at the last Emerging Music Festival in Abitibi-Témiscamingue (FME) and participated to the Montreal OFF Jazz Festival. With jazz singer May Cheung, he opened for guitarist-singer John Pizarelli during the 2007 edition of the Festival des Guitares du Monde in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

Furthermore, his passion for composition leads him to write scores for short movies and TV commercials. Since 2009, assumes his talent as a song-writer and plans on conquering the music industry.

LE SOUS-MARIN DE L'ESPACE, premier ALBUM des Contracteurs Généreux, est présentement disponible! Enregistré au début de novembre 2008 au mythique Studio Plante Verte à Saint-Mathieu-de-Beloeil (Groovy Aardvark, WD40, etc). Financé uniquement par la prévente des disques et avec l'aide de quelques commanditaires, cette album est le fruit d'un travail totalement indépendant. Le mixage et le matriçage furent effectué par des membres du groupe, Gabriel et Mathieu, tous deux jouissant d’une formation et d’une expérience dans le domaine. Constitué de huit pièces compositions originales, ce premier effort se veut fidèle à nos spectacle, c’est-à-dire énergique et spontané. Par contre, au lieu d’y dresser la liste des différents styles que nous sommes capables d’interpréter, nous avons opté pour la cohérence en explorant entre autres choses notre penchant pour les ballades.
