  • 4th Annual Gram Parsons Birthday Hoot, Nov. 7th, 2010!

Fall is here and it’s time for the 4th Annual Gram Parsons Birthday Hoot. On November 7th at Threadgill’s World Headquarters in Austin, Texas, an impressive collection of performers will gather from 6 to 10PM to celebrate the music of Gram Parsons, benefitting the Americana Music Association.

I'll lead the house band, as invited guest artists perform their favorite Gram Parson’s songs in this annual musical homage to the man whose influence on the artists and music of today’s Americana movement is still felt today. This is not only a night for Parson’s fans to remember, but an opportunity for those not familiar with his music to hear and enjoy it for the first time.

This year’s event will benefit the Americana Music Association, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the genre of music that Parsons helped define.

This year’s show will feature Michael Fracasso, Josh Zee and Teal Collins of the Mother Truckers, Earl P. Ball, members of Stonehoney, Freddie Steady Krc, Geoff Union of the Too High String Band, Noel Hampton, Jenny Reynolds, Ben Mallott, Idgy Vaughn, Cam King, Julieann Banks, Steve Carter, Jim Patton, Lorrie Singer, Dana McBride, Cho-Jo Jacques, Jake Carter, Gary Newcomb, Doc Simons, Daniel Simons, Rob Bollinger and Jon Hahn.

Join the league of Parsons fans to celebrate his legacy of cosmic American music and help support this great organization.

  • New Christmas Single

I've posted a couple of original Christmas-themed songs—a Christmas single! (or double, actually). One deals with loss and the other is a humorous rock-n-roll fantasy. I hope you enjoy listening; feel free to download and send to your friends. Merry Christmas!!
  • 3rd Annual Gram Parsons Birthday Hoot

It's time once again for the Annual Gram Parsons Birthday Hoot, and things are shaping up nicely. It's always a roll of the dice to see who's not out touring, as many willing performers often are.

We'll assemble at Threadgill's World Headquarters (thank you Eddie and David!) on November 5th as our wonderful house band accompanies a parade of talented performers singing their favorite Gram Parsons songs. (Well ok, not everyone can sing Hickory Wind or Sin City, but we'll figure it out.)

This year's event will benefit SWRFA (the Southwest Regional Folk
Alliance), a non-profit organization that promotes traditional, contemporary, and multicultural folk music (folk in this case is pretty expansive--I saw Porter Davis open for Ian MacLagan at last year's national conference.)

    Performers scheduled to appear include:

    *Michael Fracasso – singer/songwriter....

*Gurf Morlix- singer/songwriter, producer (Lucinda Williams, Ray Wylie Hubbard, more recently Betty Soo and portedavis) and winner of this year’s Americana Music Association instrumentalist of the year award.....

*Earl P. Ball -  whose work appears with Gram’s on the Byrd's Sweetheart Of The Rodeo album,....

*Christine Albert and Chris Gage - aka the duo Albert and Gage....

    *Patterson Barrett - singer/songwriter, producer....

*Freddie “Steady” Krc - (Wild Country, The Explosives) and Jenny Wolf....
