SYLVAIN COSSETTE QUINTET..Ne vous méprenez pas... «Sylvain Cossette quintet » n’est pas une réorientation de la carrière du chanteur populaire Sylvain Cossette mais le quintette d’un guitariste de jazz du même nom. L’ensemble dirigé par Sylvain Cossette (guitare) est un quintette de jazz permettant aux compositions du guitariste de voir le jour. Depuis plusieurs années le groupe peaufine un répertoire de compositions originales toujours à la recherche de sonorités nouvelles. L’ensemble s’est produit dans plusieurs salles de spectacles et festivals du Québec en plus de recevoir l’invitation de festivals de jazz français...DEPUIS LE LANCEMENT DE L'ALBUM "Sylvain Cossette quartet - another step" PAR L'ADDITION D'UN MEMBRE, LE GROUPE EST DEVENU UN QUINTETTTE ....Do not be mistaken.... Sylvain Cossette Quartet does not mean a new career for the popular singer Sylvain Cossette; it is in fact the name of the quartet started by a jazz guitarist of the same name. Under his leadership, Sylvain Cossette’s jazz quintet brings life to the music that he has written. For several years, the group has been perfecting a repertoire of original pieces while constantly searching for new sounds. The group has performed at several music halls and festivals in Québec and has been invited to play at French jazz festivals...SINCE THE LAUNCH OF THE CD "Sylvain Cossette quartet - another step" THE GROUP HAVE ADD A MUSICIEN TO BECOME A QUINTET. ....SYLVAIN COSSETTE ..Guitariste de jazz Montréalais..Sylvain Cossette débute sa formation au Cégep St-Laurent auprès de M. Sam Balderman et bénéficiera de l’enseignement de plusieurs musiciens québécois réputés (Jean-Pierre Zanella, Luc Beaugrand, André Beaudry,…). Il complétera ensuite un Baccalauréat en interprétation jazz à l’Université Concordia (auprès de Neil Smolar, Garry Schwartz, Roddy Ellias, Andrew Homzy…). Depuis, il ne cesse de multiplier les occasions d’utiliser le fruit de ces enseignements. En plus de se produire à l’intérieur de son propre ensemble (Sylvain Cossette quartet), il s’associe avec Stéphanie Biddle (fille du regretté Charles) pour fonder le “Liquid Blues Band”. Durant 2 ans (1999-2000) le groupe se produira à maintes reprises dans les salles de spectacles et festivals du Québec en plus de participer à l’enregistrement du film américain “One eyed king”. Il réalisera des arrangements musicaux pour M. Neil Smolar (Neil Smolar productions) destinés à des musiques de films. En 1999, avec quelques collègues musiciens il fonde l’École de musique de la Montérégie (Longueuil). Il a reçu plusieurs bourses du Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec et du Conseil des Arts du Canada afin notamment d’enregistrer un disque compact avec son quatuor (another step) et parfaire sa formation auprès du guitariste américain Ben Monder (2003).....SYLVAIN COSSETTE jazz guitarist from MONTRÉAL, CANADA..Sylvain Cossette first studied the guitar at the Cégep St-Laurent under Mr. Sam Balderman, where he benefited from the teachings of several well-known Quebec musicians (Jean-Pierre Zanella, Luc Beaugrand, André Beaudry, etc.). He completed a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Interpretation at Concordia University (learning from Neil Smolar, Garry Schwartz, Roddy Ellias, Andrew Homzy, etc.). Since then, he has never stopped looking for every possible opportunity to make the most of his musical knowledge. While playing with his own group (Sylvain Cossette Quartet), he started a partnership with Stéphanie Biddle (daughter of the late Charles Biddle) to start the Liquid Blues Band. For two years (1999-2000), the group gave several performances in many concert halls and festivals in Quebec and it also took part in recording the score of the American movie One eyed king. Sylvain Cossette has written musical arrangements intended for movies for Neil Smolar (Neil Smolar Productions). In 1999, with a few fellow musicians, he founded l’École de musique de la Montérégie, a music school in Longueuil. He has received several grants from the Conseil des Arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council, particularly to record a CD album with his quartet (Another Step) and to perfect his skills under the well-known American guitarist Ben Monder (2003).....
