Here in the States we often get overly focused with the music that’s popular here, forgetting about the fact that there’s a whole slew of artists that are famous in other countries. The K-Pop movement has gotten some recent press over here, but mostly it’s been treated as a gimmick that doesn’t come close to matching our obsession with foreign artists like Adele or Florence and the Machine. But Japanese K-Pop group (yes that’s a thing) Girls’ Generation has been making strides on the charts lately and now have achieved one million albums sold. So maybe now they are worthy of more of our attention?

The girl group, which appears under the name Shojo Jidal on the Japanese charts, has recently been promoting their hit single “Paparazzi,” a track that reached the No. 1 spot on the Japanese Hot 100 this week, according to Billboard. The single has sold over 103,000 copies and boasts a seven-minute video that has garnered over 7.6 million views on YouTube. Which is to say that even if you aren’t into the K-Pop style you should probably still be aware of this band’s existence. Check out the video below:

Girls’ Generation’s albums have collectively sold over one million copies just in Japan, with their recent self-titled disc accounting for 715,000 of those records. The band has had some crossover here in the U.S., although not quite to the degree that European artists have. Girls’ Generation’s track “The Boys” featured Snoop Dogg in a remix version earlier this year and the rapper has proclaimed himself a fan of the band. Check out the remix track below:

If you’re curious about K-Pop, which technically features artists from Korea but has expanded to embrace artists from other countries, SPIN did a lengthy piece on the subject earlier this year that is worth reading. Check that out here.
