Madonna Defies Gun Ban At Scotland Show Despite Aurora Shooting

.Another day, another instance of Madonna being insufferable. The singer defied a ban set by local police in Scotland to keep guns out of her live show at Edinburgh’s Murrayfield Stadium over the weekend, showing a lack of respect for both local standards and the global news of a mass shooting in Aurora, CO.
.Madonna was asked by Edinburgh police not to perform with her prop guns, several pistols and an AK47 assault rifle, prior to the news of the Aurora movie theater shooting. Madonna has brought the weapons onstage at several performances on her current tour, including a recent stop at London’s Hyde Park – presumably as some kind of social or political commentary, although it’s been very unclear what that commentary might entail. Police reinforced the ban after the news of the Colorado shooting broke on Saturday morning, but Madonna, being the increasingly annoying artist that she is, brought the gun onstage anyway.
.A spokeswoman for Mothers Against Guns told the Daily Record, “Madonna and her dancers using replica guns was always in bad taste but given what happened in Colorado it is even worse. She should know better.” Scottish Labour’s Graeme Pearson MSP, a member of Holyrood’s Justice Committee, added to the Daily Record, “It’s crass and insensitive and with Scotland’s own gun tragedy at Dunblane she should have known better.” We agree, except we’re wondering if Madonna actually does know any better. Her entire tour has been in poor taste, urging controversy in nearly all the countries she’s visited. And it doesn’t seem like it’s been for the sake of anything except pushing buttons and earning headlines (how else do you explain her purposeful nip-slip in Istanbul?).
.We want to know: What do you think of Madonna’s recent actions on tour? Should she have holstered the guns, especially in light of the Aurora shooting, or are artists subject to a freedom of expression? Should that freedom of expression disregards whatever is happening in the world in favor of artistic license? Tell us in the comments. Meanwhile we’ll be over here painting “Team Gaga” on some tee-shirts.
