We know, we know, you thought Bret Michaels would finally find lasting love after two seasons of his reality dating show Rock of Love, arguably the greatest American TV show ever created. But in 2010 the Poison frontman found a fiancee in the form of longtime girlfriend (and the mother of his children) Kristi Gibson. Wedding bells were in their future. Which is why we are so sad to hear that Michaels and Gibson have called off their engagement and are currently separated.

Michaels’ publicist, Joanna Mignano, revealed in a statement yesterday that the couple has separated. The two have dated on and off for nearly two decades, despite Michaels’ foray into reality dating show. They have two daughters, Raine Elizabeth and Jorja Bleu. Mignano said in the statement, “Although the couple have separated they remain great friends and are committed to jointly raising their two daughters.”

Michaels wrote on his website, “With all that Kristi, Raine, Jorja and I are going through, no doubt this is a very difficult time for all of us. I want all of you to know that Kristi and I remain great friends and committed loving parents to our daughters. I am blessed to have someone as great as Kristi in my life in any capacity.”

So, okay, this is clearly bummer news and we’re especially sorry to hear it when it comes to the couple’s daughters. However, this could be an opportunity to bring back Rock of Love for a third season. Watching scantily-clad girls fight and mud wrestle their way into Michaels’ heart somehow makes for some of the best television ever staged. And, of course, it’s not really about watching insane women with their insane boob jobs. It’s about an aging rockstar who just wants to find love and knows that the best way to do so is by going on TV. Ah, America.
