The start of the new year has once again proven that pop fare is wearing thin in the states. But then Destiny’s Child and Justin Timberlake announced their return to music this year and everything changed. Timberlake will release his new song on Jan. 14, and Destiny on Jan. 29 (with a sneak peak circulating). In addition to these acts, there is Something New from a British girl group that will fit right in on Top 40 radio.

While 2012 brought us a slew of eclectic, international fare from Gotye, Carly Rae Jepsen, and The Lumineers, so it’s hard to say what 2013 will bring. Will a viral hit like Gangnam Style take off? One Direction is solid, but could a girl group called Little Mix take over? Could Anne Hathaway prove to be a great singer? -

Picking out tracks for these posts can be a little difficult. The unstoppable club anthems that rock the U.K. and Australia don’t necessarily do well here. However, there are some universal artists that are able to gain a strong foothold (Ed Sheeran and Gotye, anyone?) Will new songs from Ludacris and Imagine Dragons get as popular here as they are overseas? Check out what’s trending across the pond. -

Guess this makes it a more official Grammy-nominated post since we know who the nominees are. See what six-time Grammy nominee Frank Ocean and two-timers The Lumineers and Florence and the Machine have in store for us.
