I am ex military - both the British and Rhodesian armies - and served with both The Parachute Regiment and the SAS Regiment. I hold a degree in life experience - been there done that,got the t-shirts and had them ripped off my back a few times as well - such is life.

I spent time in both the Congo and Chad in Africa but my love for the old Rhodesia - where I was for 13 years - stays and lives in my heart and memories. I lived and worked in both Victoria Falls and the City of Bulawayo.

I was a parks Officer in Africa - what a wonderful job - I lived at the Victoria Falls for three years - No TV just life in the raw ! Some people if they are lucky get to see the "Falls" maybe once in their lifetime. I saw them hundreds of times and each time there would be something different.When the moon was right you could see the most wonderful night time rainbow. Memories!

Who I'd like to meet:

I am here to meet new friends from any country and of any age. If you enjoy life and like to laugh, especially at yourself, plus it would help if you are a little crazy, then I'd like to meet you.
My blog is nearly all poetry which I started writing in August 2007, please pay a visit if you have time.

I'd like to meet Robert Mugabe the President of Zimbabwe in a dark alley and ask him what he has done with my money and property he has confiscated and probably already spent.

General
One of the greatest joys for me are mountains.
I have climbed and walked them, cursed them, and wondered at them, but always enjoyed them.
My favourite walking countries are Austria and Slovenia.
I have walked all day up in the Slovenian Alps and not seen another single person - just me, the mountains and God. Now that is heaven on earth - believe me.
Oh there have been times when I never thought I would reach the summit, but once there what a fantastic feeling, not to mention the sights!!

This is the view from the top of Mount Vrisic in Slovenia which was tough going in the heat of a beautiful summer. Just imagine the luxury of a hot bath after returning to the hotel and the cold beer and schnapps - well more than one - plus a lovely meal. Ah sweet mystery of life at last I've found you!!

People more than things have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, redeemed.
Never throw anyone out!

A hug is a great gift.
One size fits all
It can be given for any occassion and it is so easy to exchange.

Life is short, break the rules
Forgive quickly
Kiss slowly
Love truly
laugh uncontrollably

Courage does not always roar
Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying
I will try again tomorrow!!

I don't want the moon

Depending on what is said a whisper can be louder that a shout.

A SMILE

A smile costs nothing
but gives much.
It enriches those who receive, without making poorer those who give.
It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever.
None is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it, and and none is so poor that he can be made rich by it.
A smile creates happiness in the home, fosters goodwill in business, and is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary, cheer to the discouraged, sunshine to the sad, and it is natures best antidote for trouble.
yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away.
Some people are too tired to give you a smile.
Give them one of yours as none needs a smile as much as he who has no more to give.

We all have different ideas about the seven wonders of the world and what they are. But surely the following are the real seven wonders:

To see.
To hear.
To touch.
To taste.
To feel.
To laugh.
To love.

Isle of Man

Since leaving Africa I have lived here on the Isle of Man in the middle of the Irish Sea, where I was actually born, which makes me a Manxman with Viking heritage. The population of the Island is only 70,000 and we have our own Government which is the oldest continuous Parliament in the world. We also host the world famous TT motor cycle races which bring about 20,000 bikers to the Island for the racing fortnight.

You can close your eyes to things you don't want to see, but you can't close your heart to the things you don't want to feel.

You've got to take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what you've got, and remember what you had. Always forgive, but never forget. Learn from mistakes, but never regret.

I've learned that things change, people change, and it doesn't mean you forget the past or try to cover it up. It simply means that you move on and treasure the memories. Letting go doesn't mean giving up... it means accepting that some things weren't meant to be.
