Young Blaze was born and raised on the mean streets of Detroit. Growing up in Motown was never easy for him. At the young age of 2, Blaze lost his older brother Benay, who was shot in a gang related incident. If this was not enough for the up and coming hip-hop artist, his parents, who had used drugs around the children, had decided to divorce a year later. After all of the gunfire and animosity, Young Blaze found himself living with his father, who later remarried, putting Blaze in a home with an abusive stepmom. Blaze’s older brothers, John and Isaih, finally had enough and decided to move out, leaving just Blaze and his sister Erica. At the age of 16, Erica had enough also and moved out on her own. This left Blaze pretty much by himself and with nowhere to turn. As all kids in Detroit do, Blaze fell into the streets of Detroit. It all changed one summer afternoon after a horrific incident he was involved in. When the dust settled, Blaze found himself walking the streets for hours pretty much in a daze, trying to figure out how to recover and be a better person. After walking all the way to 8 Mile and walking up and down the streets, it just clicked for him. Blaze found himself walking to a place he had never been before in Detroit. After walking, he found himself on the steps of the famous Hitsville USA recording studio, owned by Motown’s own Berry Gordy, Jr. Blaze took the time to walk around the outside of the house. Now a museum (www.motownmuseum.com), Blaze took a breath and sat down on the front steps and found his calling…MUSIC. So at the age of 11, he started writing his first song about the hard times of Detroit. As the hours went by, he just sat and wrote. If you were one of the lucky ones and drove by, you saw history in the making….a Young Blaze sitting on the steps of Hitsville USA singing to himself and writing. “It was crazy,” Young Blaze said. “I found nothing else interesting. I ate, slept, and worked on music 24/7 since that very day. It’s funny. I heard a gunshot out the window and people screaming with police sirens, and I wrote about it. I am a product of what I was surrounded by”.

At the age of 14, Young Blaze recorded his first song. “I’m not complaining. I love Detroit. It’s my home and it always will be. I would not be who I am today without growing up here in Detroit. I loved school. Nothing meant more to me then graduating. Until I saw people getting shot at, stabbed, and worse. Trouble makers becoming friends with the security guards and being allowed in the school. I finally had enough the start of my senior year and just walked out. If the security guards can’t protect us from the very people they are allowing in, then no need for me to be there.” Blaze started recording more and more. Today, still under the age of 18, he is pounding the streets of Detroit. Blaze has made it. Songs like “The Overload” and “Haters Gettin’ Mad” are what makes Blaze so popular in Detroit. In November 2010, in downtown Detroit, Blaze met the owner of High Speed Entertainment at the Filmore. After walking around and talking, they both came up with an agreement, and Young Blaze signed an Artist Development Deal with High Speed Entertainment. Owner Jerold Smith said, “I have spent the past 2 years running around the country looking for the right person for us to represent. I lost count of the number of acts I have seen. But nobody, and I mean nobody, stuck out like Blaze. This is a kid who learned Myspace, Facebook, Twitter and Youtube on his own. Not just signing on like most people think you just do, but learning them.”

Blaze will be heading back to the studio in December to record “The Way It Used To Be”, and a great tribute song and video to his brother who had been killed. 2011 will be busy with heavy recording, promotions, and touring. Look for him and the rest of the crew as they work on “The Product of Hip-Hop”. If you want to hear hip-hop music the way it is supposed to be, not some rich kid who claims he grew up in the hood but lived in a rich hood, then check out Young Blaze.
