Bio
Jason LaPrade's uniquely clear, expressive style on dobro, guitar, and lap-steel has won admiration and praise from the “old guard” of Canadian folk music, as well as from many dynamic, up- and-coming artists. Jason is a sought- after session musician, performing on albums for the likes of award-winning instrumentalist Oliver Schroer, award-winning songwriter Rosemary Phelan, star-studded Toronto band The Great Atomic Power, and many others. Formerly of popular alt-country band The Jayne Waynes, Jason currently performs regularly with Rosemary Phelan, The Great Atomic Power, Toronto/Nashville-based The Stellas and others. .... As a recording engineer, producer, and live sound technician, Jason has earned the respect of artists from all over North America for his amazing talent in capturing the essence of acoustic performances, and helping artist's work to truly shine. He has recently wrapped up recordings for award-winning songwriter Jon Brooks, and promising newcomers Asetha Power and Amy Pitt. .... Jason currently resides in Toronto, Ontario. As well as recording services, his sound company, Crystal Clear Sound, provides live sound for many of Toronto's premiere acoustic music venues such as Hugh's Room, Acoustic Harvest and The Flying Cloud Folk Club. .... ..www.crystalclearsound.ca.. .... 1. ..Halfway to Somewhere.. - Solo guitar tune that developed out of a Rosemary Phelan song (Silver Threads) as I was trying to come up with a part for it. We never used it on the album but I liked it enough to do some more work on the melody. This is the result. .... 2. ..Invisible.. - A beautiful song about death. Written by Rosemary Phelan. .... 3. ..Zen Wedding.. - A dobro tune dedicated to Rob & Susan. .... 4. .. Firefly Instrumental.. - instrumental parts adapted and arranged from another Rosemary Phelan song used in a play called Chemo Brain. Rosemary - rhythm guitar, Dave Clarke - lead acoustic guitar, Me - lap-steel & bass. .... 5. ..Emily.. - The main theme for this song is one of the first things I ever played on the dobro. This goes out to Emily Addison. .... 6. ..Outside My Window.. - the singer is Ajike Akande and the violin is played by Lydia Bartkiw. Everything else is me. .... 7. ..Wake The Nightingale.. - This was supposed to be a vocal tune by Rosemary Phelan but we decided to scratch that idea and turn it into an instrumental instead. I'm playing some guitar and dobro. .... 8. ..Chasing Glory.. - My attempt at writing a theme song for Hockey Night In Canada. But maybe it'll find it's way into a commercial someday. -
