A fresh, new, exciting palette for the ears! The Plastic Acid Project combines modal prog-rock with classical art music... then infuses them with groovin' world rhythms! The art-rock-world fusion quartet uses a unique recipe of cello, violin, drums, percussion, piano and voice. Primarily an instrumental group (with some vocals), the Plastic Acid Project has been performing in the Vancouver music scene for over 6 years now, though it's members have been performing locally for over 20 years. The chameleon group has many manifestations, and has performed in a kaleidoscope of venues and events - even expanding to a 45-piece rock orchestra - in the Vancouver area and around BC. The quartet's unique set features a spicy brother and sister string duo, grooving metal, skin and glass percussionist and an all-in-one gypsy hillbilly, providing keys, vocals, djembe and fire dancing. Their tantalizing sound soars with tasty and percussive melodic sounds capes; ripping cello licks, bold sweeping and rockin' violin lines, sweet world djembe beats, modal harmonies, sparkling piano brilliance and haunting vocals – always with a bold, underlying rhythmic elixir... then add an explosive fire dance to the mix... stir and enjoy.... While the Plastic Acid Project composes their own original music, and adapts that into larger orchestral formations, they also work with many new, exciting young Canadian composers. The Plastic Acid Orchestra has showcased and/or premiered original works by Jason Nett, Martin Reisle and Mike Bell, just to name a few. Each of these young composers encompasses a wide variety of musical influences from rockabilly, blues, metal, progressive, gothic and punk. This is combined with a repertoire that includes new symphonic arrangements of Soundgarden, Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, as well as classics from Beethoven and Shostakovich. Plastic Acid is currently working on writing and recording new works both for the quintet and the orchestra.
